Principal's Message - Week 9, Term 1
In the last section of Chapter 25 of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus discusses the notion of caring well for others. He tells a parable of a King commending those who cared for him. The people respond with confusion because they don’t recall the times when they cared for the King. Jesus goes on to explain in verse 40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"
You may be aware that for almost the entire existence of the school, we have had an association with the organisation Compassion, sponsoring many children over the life of the school. As a school, we currently sponsor six children. In February, I had the immense privilege to travel to Indonesia and see firsthand the work that Compassion does and the impact that it has on children, churches, families and communities. It was an experience that I will never forget. The joy these children displayed, their excitement to know that we had come to visit, and their genuine faith in our Lord’s provision left a lasting impact on me.
Part of the reason for travelling there was to explore the possibility of our school strengthening relationships with Compassion children and schools. I think it would be a wonderfully rewarding experience for all involved if we can send some of our students to personally visit the children we have sponsored, written letters to, and prayed for. As our school continues to grow, we may have the capacity to send students to Indonesia as well as Samoa.
As part of my trip, I had the opportunity to visit several schools. Let me assure you that they did not enjoy the same facilities and resources we can take for granted here. Given that they speak another language I can’t say that I was able to teach them very much; although by God’s providence, on one occasion I came into a class that was in the middle of an English lesson, which made things a little easier.
Whilst it was a very rewarding experience to see the way God is working in other parts of the world, I was also reminded that there are those in need here in Australia and within our communities. We hope that as our students continue to understand our School Values – two of which are Service and Compassion, we will be a community that more effectively lives out the notion of 1 Peter 4:10, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
God bless,
