Secondary School Events, Camps, and Sporting Opportunities

Sport in Secondary School

Secondary students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and physical activities at a house and representative level. The perseverance and endurance required in athletic competition can be valuable in building and strengthening character.

Students are encouraged to develop and use their gifts in sport to honour Christ, the giver of all gifts, in the way they play with and against others.

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." - Colossians 3:17

Our three major carnivals (Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics) are a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and students to strengthen relationships. The Cross Country Carnival is a particular highlight as students engage in a Colour Run whilst also raising awareness and funding for Anti-Bullying.

Secondary School Sport also invites and encourages students to compete in a variety of sports against Christian schools in our Zone. Our sporting Gala Days include:

  • Touch Football
  • Soccer
  • Netball
  • Futsal
  • Basketball
  • Oz-Tag
  • Cricket

Students who compete at a high level outside of school also have the opportunity to trial for the CSSA Representative Team in their respective sport. Students can trial for Representative Teams in the sports of Triathlon, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rugby Union and Tennis. WCCS also supports students who compete in Equestrian events throughout the year.

Another enjoyable experience for teachers and students is our termly staff vs students games. These friendly matches are usually held towards the end of each term and are a fantastic way for students and staff to have fun and strengthen relationships.

Sport Leadership Opportunities

Our Sport Leadership Team offers Secondary students the ability to serve the school community by assisting with enhancing students’ experiences of sport. Our Sport Prefects and House Captains assist with Sports Carnivals and Gala Days, as well as organising and facilitating house events during lunchtimes. Sport Prefects and House Captains work collaboratively and develop essential leadership skills as assist with planning, organising, coaching, managing and running various sporting activities.

Secondary School Camps and Experiences

Our school camps and excursions are included within our global school fees. In Secondary School our camp schedule includes the following enriching and adventurous experiences:

  • Year 7 Camp
  • Student Leadership Camp - attended by our Student Leadership Team
  • Year 9 Red Centre Road Trip
  • Year 12 Study Camp

Community Events

Throughout the year we have various opportunities to gather with our community. We value partnering with families and strengthing our connection in the following ways:

  • Meet the Teacher Evening - at the beginning of the school year, parents and carers are invited to meet their child's teachers and get to know each other in a more informal environment.
  • Mother's Day and Father's Day - each year we hold a small celebration around these dates to honour and thank the parents and carers in our community.
  • Sport Carnivals
  • Community Picnic - on the day of Cross Country Carnival
  • Literacy Day - Book Parade
  • School Musical - our biennial school musical will be held next in 2025. We are excited to showcase the God-given gifts and talents in the area of the Creative Arts.

School Concert Band and Private Music Tuition

Band Opportunities - Students in Years 7-12 have the opportunity in a number of ensembles including the Secondary School Concert Band and Chapel Band. As a school, we provide whole band rehearsals as part of our Global Fee Structure. The School Board, along with our school’s Senior Leadership Team, greatly values our expanding music program and continues to support its growth.

Private Music Tuition for students (one-on-one lessons) can be arranged by contacting our school office. Lesson prices vary, depending on the tutor’s qualifications and experience. Lessons take place weekly on a rotating roster so that students do not miss the same class time each week. Many of our band students are already enrolled with a private tutor either at school or externally. Invoices for Private Tuition are billed directly to the parent by the tutor.
